How Yamaha Improved Efficiency with a Heating System Upgrade

A Partnership Rooted in Trust, Expertise, & Customer Care

For several years, Plumbing & Gas Solutions Ltd has had the privilege of partnering with Yamaha Music UK, providing a comprehensive range of heating, plumbing, and plant maintenance services across their Tilbrook and Mount Farm sites.

Tilbrook serves as Yamaha Music UK’s headquarters and main storage warehouse, while Mount Farm houses the Piano Selection Centre, tuning rooms, and office space. Our long-standing relationship is founded on a deep understanding of Yamaha’s unique operational requirements and a shared commitment to excellence, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

Yamaha is an iconic brand with a rich heritage dating back to 1887, renowned worldwide for producing high-quality musical instruments that combine traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. This pursuit of perfection and attention to detail extends into every aspect of their business, including their facilities. We are proud to support such a distinguished organisation by ensuring their premises operate at optimum levels, enabling their teams to focus on their core mission of creating musical inspiration.

Comprehensive Support Across Multiple Sites

Yamaha’s operations span two primary locations:

  • Tilbrook: Yamaha Music UK’s headquarters and main storage warehouse. This large facility also includes office space and a studio environment, where precision-controlled conditions are essential for activities such as piano tuning.
  • Mount Farm: Home to Yamaha’s Piano Selection Centre, along with tuning rooms and additional office space. The site also functions as a warehouse for large pianos, requiring stable environmental controls to preserve the quality of the instruments.

Across these sites, we deliver a full spectrum of services, including heating system maintenance, legionella checks, plant room cleaning, emergency call-outs, and bespoke projects. Recognising that Yamaha’s internal teams are not technically specialised in plant maintenance, they rely heavily on our expertise, knowledge, and proactive advice.

Seasonal Heating Management: Maximising Efficiency and Comfort

One of the core elements of our service is the management of Yamaha’s heating systems through the seasonal cycles. During the summer months, we carefully switch off heating systems, taking advantage of this downtime to conduct thorough servicing, preventative maintenance, and any necessary repairs. This approach not only safeguards the longevity of the equipment but also ensures peak performance and reliability when the systems are brought back online in autumn.

Our seamless coordination and attention to detail mean minimal disruption to Yamaha’s operations, while maximising energy efficiency and cost savings. This “switch off and service” strategy has become a vital part of Yamaha’s facilities management, providing confidence that the heating environment will be reliable, safe, and efficient when staff return to colder conditions.

Proactive Advice and Strategic Upgrades

An example of our consultative approach is the careful monitoring and eventual replacement of a worn-out warm air heater at the Tilbrook warehouse. For several years, we kept this ageing unit functioning through regular repairs and motor reconditioning, essentially putting it on “life support.” However, understanding the increasing risks and inefficiencies involved, we proactively advised Yamaha to invest in a modern replacement.

This recommendation was driven by a clear assessment of operational risks—on particularly cold days, failure of the heater would require staff to leave the warehouse, affecting productivity. Our transparent advice saved Yamaha unnecessary ongoing costs of emergency repairs and downtime, ensuring their workspace remained warm, safe, and functional throughout the winter months.

Delivering Beyond Expectations: Specialist Projects

Our commitment to Yamaha goes beyond standard heating and plumbing services. One notable project involved the complete removal of a large, redundant sprinkler system at the Tilbrook warehouse. This system consisted of extensive red steel piping spanning the roof, heavily contaminated with black sludge.

Over several months, our skilled team safely dismantled and disposed of this system, working at height on scissor lifts and managing the complex drainage and environmental considerations involved. Though not a routine project for us, we embraced the challenge to support Yamaha, demonstrating the versatility and breadth of our capabilities.

Extensive Service Portfolio

Our ongoing relationship with Yamaha encompasses a broad range of services, tailored to their evolving needs:

  • Monthly temperature and legionella testing to ensure compliance and safety
  • Regular tank cleaning and plant room maintenance for operational efficiency
  • Warm air heater repair, maintenance, and strategic replacement to guarantee environmental comfort
  • Emergency call-out services both during and outside business hours to minimise downtime
  • Summer heating switch-off and winter heating switch-on, with comprehensive system servicing during off periods
  • Complete washroom refurbishment across the entire site, enhancing staff welfare facilities
  • Specialist redundant sprinkler system removal, including safe working at height and responsible disposal
  • Collaborative leak repair on cold water mains in partnership with Anglian Water, reducing water loss and safeguarding infrastructure
  • Preparation and support for head office audits, including remediation works and bespoke signage to meet stringent standards
  • Replacement of large, direct-fired hot water cylinders, requiring specialist handling due to size and weight

A Trusted Extension of Yamaha’s Team

Our partnership with Yamaha exemplifies our core values: to provide expert advice, deliver exceptional service, and act as a trusted extension of our client’s team. We pride ourselves on going the extra mile—whether that’s recommending preventative solutions, tackling unusual projects, or providing rapid response when emergencies arise.

By maintaining a collaborative relationship, we ensure Yamaha’s facilities remain safe, efficient, and fully operational, allowing them to focus on their passion for music and innovation. This ongoing commitment to client retention and satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do.
